Auckland Zoo

The Oakland Zoo is a zoo in Oakland, California, in the United States. Auckland Zoo is a small zoo (100 acres,.40 km2) with modern exhibits. The animals are kept in an environment that is similar to their natural habitat. The zoo is well-known for its elephant exhibits, which are free-roaming and acclaimed.

Early
Henry A. Snow founded the park, which opened in 1922. It changed locations several times after that, finally settling in Durant Park in 1939. Under the leadership of California State Parks Commission President Joseph R. Noland, the land was purchased by the state of California and renamed the Joseph Noland State Zoological and Botanical Park in 1950. EBZS, founded in 1939 by Henry Snow's son Sidney, had a close relationship with Auckland Zoo. The Alameda County Zoological and Botanical Society was the name at the time.

Zoo expansion
The EBZS had a significant impact on Auckland Zoo exhibits, but only after the zoo's major evolution from 1958 to 1965. The funds were used for a variety of projects thanks to the efforts of EBZS. In 1982, EBZS and Auckland agreed to manage and develop the zoo as a non-profit organisation, and the zoo expanded. Joel Parrott was hired as executive director in 1985. Many new exhibits have been added since then, including baboon and chimp exhibits, and the elephant exhibit was added in 1987. The sun bear exhibit opened in 1995 and has appeared on Animal Planet's The Ultimate Zoo. The African Savanna, which houses elephants, giraffes, and hyenas, was completed in 1998. A squirrel monkey exhibit was added to the newly constructed tiger exhibit in the fall of 2001. Four dromedary camels were relocated from their current enclosure to a new, larger enclosure in the spring of 2007. Due to reduced revenues as a result of the economic downturn, EBZS received a subsidy from the City of Auckland in 2009.

Playground
A small playground right next to the zoo has four playgrounds: an elephant slide, a hippo tunnel, a turtle you can ride on its back, and a wall climber that can't tell if it's a giraffe or a camel.
