  Little Rock Zoo The Little Rock Zoo was established in 1926 and is located in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is home to over 725 animals representing over 200 species and spans 33 acres (13 ha). The Arkansas Zoological Foundation is a non-profit organisation that raises funds for zoo development.  The Little Rock Zoo is a city of Little Rock department. It is Arkansas's largest zoo and the only one accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). History In 1926, the Little Rock Zoo began with only two animals: an abandoned timber wolf and a circus-trained bear. It has grown over the years to include 725 animals representing over 200 species.  The Works Progress Administration constructed the zoo's first structures out of local stone (WPA). These structures were constructed in the 1930s and housed primates, reptiles, birds, and big cats.   Oregon Zoo The Oregon Zoo , formerly known as the Portland Zoo and later as the Washington Park Zoo, is a zoo in Washington Park, Portland, Oregon, about 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of downtown Portland. It is the oldest zoo west of the Mississippi River, having opened in 1888. The Metro government owns the 64-acre (26-hectare) zoo.   Museum Wiesbaden The Museum Wiesbaden is a two-branched museum of art and natural history in Wiesbaden, Germany. Along with the museums in Kassel and Darmstadt, it is one of three Hessian State museums . History The origins of the original three museums can be traced back to the citizens of Wiesbaden and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who stayed in Wiesbaden for a rehabilitation measure in 1814/1815 and worked hard to establish such a cultural institution. In 1825, he persuaded Frankfurter private collector Johann Isaac Freiherr von Gerning  to donate his extensive collections of works of art, antiquities, and in kind to the Duchy of Nassau in exchange for a life annuity. Citizens of Wiesbaden and the surrounding region were able to rapidly expand these collections under the supervision of newly formed associations but under the control of the ducal government. The collection of ethnologist Leo Ferobenius, emeritus professor at the University of Frankfurt and director from 1934 to 1966, was purchased by the city of Frankfurt in 1925.   Navajo Nation Zoological and Botanical Park The Navajo Nation Zoological and Botanical Park is located in Window Rock, Arizona, the Navajo Nation's capital. It is the only tribally owned zoological park in the United States, and it is unique among zoological institutions in that its exhibits are labelled in Navajo Indian. It has been administered by the Navajo National Parks and Recreation Authority since its inception in the early 1960s, and it became part of the Navajo National Department of Fish and Wildlife in September 2006.
